📚 We currently have 334 overdue library books floating around out there!! 🔎

Our challenge for this weekend? HOW MANY CAN WE FIND BY MONDAY?

Check those backpacks, bookshelves, under beds, between couch cushions, and maybe even the car! You never know where a missing library book might be hiding. 👀

📬 Heads up! Overdue library book notices will be coming home in Monday Folders! They've already been printed and sent to teachers, so if you find a book this weekend and return it Monday, you can disregard the notice!

Every book returned means another book ready for a Viking reader to enjoy!

Let's see how much we can bring that overdue number down by Monday! 📚

November is Family Engagement Month. We are so thankful for all of our Viking families here at DES!

🗳️ Election Day in Mrs. Grant’s 2nd Grade! Mrs. Grant’s students celebrated Election Day with a fun mix of reading, writing, word work, and voting! After reading My Teacher for President, students shared why their teacher would make a great president and what changes they would like to see. They also practiced word-building skills and cast their votes for their favorite cake flavor in a delicious classroom election! 🍰 What a fun, hands-on way to build literacy skills while learning about voting, making choices, and having their voices heard! ❤️

🎉 Congratulations to our October Viking Students of the Month! 🎉 We are so proud of these outstanding Vikings, selected from each homeroom for demonstrating positive choices and Viking pride! ❤️🤍 On Friday, we celebrated each student with a certificate and a special McDonald’s lunch in the Media Center. 🍔🍟 A huge thank you to our CPIE partner, Bemiss Road McDonald’s, for generously providing lunch each month and helping us celebrate our amazing students! Way to go, Vikings! 🌟

🌱🌻 Dewar’s Garden Club is GROWING strong! 🌻🌱 WOW! Our very FIRST Garden Club kicked off last week, and it was a HUGE HIT! We can’t wait for more to join in on the fun! Our little gardeners have been busy getting their hands dirty, cleaning up the garden area, building raised garden beds, and painting colorful signs to make our garden extra special! We are so excited to watch this garden BLOOM and see all the amazing things our students will grow, create, and learn together! 87 kids, lots of teamwork, and one BIG garden adventure! 🌎💚 🌱 Big things are growing at Dewar! 🌱

As we celebrate School Psychology Week, Dewar would like to take a moment to recognize and thank our wonderful school psychologist, Dr. Amy Browne, for all she does to support our students, families, teachers, and staff at Dewar Elementary! Dr. Browne is such an important part of our team and plays an invaluable role in helping us meet the individual needs of our students. She works closely with our teachers and support staff, collaborates with us during Data Days and other problem-solving meetings, conducts evaluations and testing, and carefully analyzes data to help us make informed decisions about how to best support our students. She also takes the time to attend meetings with our teachers and families to explain evaluation results, answer questions, provide guidance, and help ensure everyone has a clear understanding of each student's strengths and needs. We are incredibly grateful for her knowledge, patience, compassion, and willingness to collaborate with us every step of the way. Dr. Browne, thank you for all you do for our Dewar Vikings! Your expertise and dedication make a meaningful difference for our students and families, and we are so fortunate to have you as part of our team. 📚✨ What a FUN Book Character Day at Dewar Elementary! Our students brought some of their favorite books to life, and we loved seeing all the creativity, imagination, and amazing costumes throughout the school! A HUGE thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the day so much fun! ❤️ 📸 Have fun browsing through our photos featuring each homeroom’s grade-level representative, our overall winners for each grade level, and all the creative submissions and winners for Best DIY and Best Duo/Group! Congratulations to all of our winners, and thank you for making Book Character Day one for the books! 📖🎉

Parents stepped back into the classroom and became scientists for the day during 5th Grade Parent Day!

They got a glimpse of the exciting learning happening in our science classrooms and even took part in an experiment to observe signs of a chemical change. From bubbling reactions to lively discussions, it was a wonderful reminder that the joy of learning is a lifelong journey. No matter your age, there's always something new to discover. 🌟🔍

🇺🇸🎨 Calling all creative Vikings! ✏️🇺🇸 Dewar Elementary is inviting ALL students to help us honor our veterans through our Veterans Day Art and Poetry Contests! 🎨 Art Contest: Create an original piece of artwork showing your appreciation for our veterans. Draw, paint, color, or get creative with mixed media! ✏️ Poetry Contest: Write a poem about what Veterans Day means to you, what you’re thankful for, or the difference veterans make in our world. ⭐ Selected artwork and poems will be recognized and featured during our Veterans Day Program! 📅 Deadline: Friday, October 30, 2026 📍 Turn in entries to Ms. Shelley’s box in the front office. Poetry entries should include the student’s name, grade, and teacher. We can’t wait to see how our talented Vikings use their creativity to say THANK YOU to those who have served our country! 🇺🇸
