After a read-aloud and a quick introduction to what it means to be a “maker,” students had time to explore several Makerspace activities. No assignments, no finished products, just time to create, experiment, problem-solve, and discover!
We can’t wait to see what they CREATE throughout the year! ⚙️🧱✨

Enjoy the long weekend! Please remember that students return to school on WEDNESDAY, September 9, not Tuesday.
🇺🇸 Monday, Sept. 7: Labor Day – No School
🏠 Tuesday, Sept. 8: Teacher Work Day – Students Stay Home
📚 Wednesday, Sept. 9: Students Return to School!
We look forward to seeing our Vikings back on Wednesday!

Would you help us exceed our $5,000 goal by sharing our fundraising link one last time? Even one share can make a huge difference! Share via email, text, or social media today. Thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraiser!

Last year, we profited $4,662 from the Kona Giveback program. This year, we are on track to potentially exceed that number as these awesome men dropped off our first check of the school year, a whopping $1,877!
Thank you to all our parents and staff for supporting our monthly Kona Ice days, and thank you to Kona for caring about our school communities!

Stop by the Old Gym from 7:30–8:00 AM and stock up on your Viking gear just in time for Elementary Night! 🏈
☝️ Mini Foam Fingers will be just $1!
They arrived a little more “mini” than expected 😂, so we’ve dropped the price from $3 to $1.
Missed out on something that sold out? We’ll have restocked items ready to go at our September 4 Spirit Store!

Fun Fact: We have already raised over $4,000! That's the highest total we have had with this fundraiser in several years! We would love to hit $5,000 by the end!

After 6 days of orientation and 39 homeroom visits, Dewar’s library is officially up and running!
Our Vikings explored the library’s makeover, learned new routines and procedures, met our library pets, Pretzel 🐶 and Dewey 🦎, and checked out the new comfy reading areas and Makerspace activities.
Kindergarten & 1st grade students also enjoyed May I Pet Your Dog? by Stephanie Calmenson while learning how to safely interact with dogs at school and in public.
And after all 750+ students made their way through...
📚 1,148 books checked out!
We’d say that’s a pretty great way to start the next chapter in Dewar’s library. 📖

Congratulations to Mrs. Ashli Webster, our winner! 🛍️✨
We appreciate our community partners for helping us celebrate our amazing Dewar staff!

🎉 Congratulations to our August Teacher & Staff Members of the Month!
🍎 Teacher of the Month: Stephanie Burnham
⭐ Staff Member of the Month: Shannon Boykin
Thank you both for all you do to make Dewar a great place for our students and staff!
A special thank you to Jennifer McCranie with Bank South Mortgage and Olicia Laverenz with Mercer Hughes Realty for generously sponsoring our Teacher & Staff Member of the Month prizes. We appreciate your continued support of our Dewar family! ❤️

We kicked off our first Deployment Breakfast Club meeting with a delicious breakfast from Chick-fil-A and a morning full of creativity and connection! 🥯🎨
Our military kids enjoyed painting and decorating picture frames to hold a special photo of their deployed parent—a keepsake they can treasure while their loved one is away. 🖼️❤️
It was a wonderful way to start our time together, build friendships, and remind our kids that even when a parent is deployed, they are surrounded by a community that understands and supports them. 🇺🇸💙
Here’s to many more breakfasts, crafts, friendships, and memories throughout the deployment!

We are so proud of these outstanding Vikings, selected from each homeroom for demonstrating positive choices and Viking pride! ❤️🤍
Each student was celebrated with a certificate and a special McDonald’s lunch in the Media Center. 🍔🍟
A huge thank you to our CPIE partner, Bemiss Road McDonald’s, for generously providing lunch each month and helping us celebrate our amazing students!
Way to go, Vikings! 🌟

On Monday, 3rd-5th grade students were treated to a performance by members of the South Georgia String Project. Beginning with students as young as third grade, the South Georgia String Project offers music lessons on all of the stringed instruments of the orchestra. Thank you for coming to Dewar! The students really enjoyed getting to experience these instruments in a live performance setting. If your student is interested in learning to play a string family instrument, please see the flyer below for more information.

The Good Morning Dewar Show is officially up and running!
Every morning, this group of 5th graders arrives early to set up, practice, and broadcast the show LIVE to our entire school. We are only a few weeks into the year, and they are already running the whole production themselves!
Crew members rotate through four different jobs throughout the year, learning every part of producing a live show. Each spring, 4th graders are nominated and audition for a spot on the following year’s crew.
We are so proud of the responsibility, teamwork, and confidence this crew is already showing. And we’re just getting started! 🎥⭐
GOOD MORNING, DEWAR!
