Our 5th grade students have been diving deep into the new curriculum, Benchmark Advance. They have been studying natural resources, and the focus was all about one of the most important crops in the world: corn! From learning how it’s grown and harvested to understanding its many uses in our daily lives, our students are gaining a true appreciation for the role natural resources play in our communities and environment.
And what better way to bring learning to life than through FOOD? 🤤
💛🌽 A HUGE, heartfelt shoutout to Ambrosia and Chef G of Creole Sol for going above and beyond. They cooked and delivered delicious corn for every single 5th grade class and their teachers! Your generosity and support made this lesson unforgettable and gave our students a meaningful (and tasty!) connection to their learning.
Thank you for pouring love into every bite and for being such a special part of our school community. 🌟

This year’s theme at Dewar is “Adventure Awaits,” and our 5th-grade students are taking that literally! They kicked off Social Studies by traveling around the room to explore key historical sites like the Chisholm Trail, Kitty Hawk, Chicago, Montgomery, and Philadelphia. From cattle drives to civil rights, they’re gearing up for an exciting journey through American history!

Ms. Swopes’ second graders celebrated International Dot Day on Monday by reading The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds and discovering that even a tiny dot can spark BIG creativity! Students turned simple dots into amazing art — from flowers to people and everything in between! Dot Day reminds us to be brave, make our mark, and let our imagination shine!

Students in Mrs. Godwin’s classes were so focused when doing this Social Studies activity. They labeled the 6 major rivers with different colored M&Ms, and used marshmallows and mini chocolate chips to label 2 of the mountain ranges we have learned about. It’s always fun to eat the food when finished too!

🧩 Dr. Hicks' second-grade gifted students have been learning about logic puzzles!
They read clues and marked a logic grid with X = no and O = yes to narrow choices until the answer clicked. For the finale, they designed original logic puzzles in Canva and then swapped to solve their classmates’ creations—so much creativity and problem-solving on display!
