We would like to extend a huge thank you to Dr. Ramirez for guest speaking at our Leadership Conference and pouring into our students! 💙

She truly brought everything full circle by providing hands-on symbols that helped our students connect the leadership characteristics they learned in their breakout sessions to real-life skills. Her message was meaningful, engaging, and inspiring.

It was especially special to have Dr. Ramirez with us, as she is the one who originally brought the Student Council to life here at Dewar. Seeing her continue to invest in our students and our school community was truly a full-circle moment.

We are so grateful for her time, passion, and dedication to developing future leaders. Thank you, Dr. Ramirez, for making such a lasting impact! 🌟

Last week, during our Women to Warriors activity, our 5th-grade girls had the incredible opportunity to learn from a local business owner. Jesse Deen, owner of Expressions Dance Studio, shared what it’s really like to own a business—the hard work, the passion, and the fun that comes with it! Our girls asked thoughtful, meaningful questions and loved learning from her experience. To top it off, they even picked up some new dance moves along the way! 💃✨

We are so proud of their curiosity and confidence!

To celebrate World Read Aloud Day, Ms. Swopes’ second graders invited Mrs. Lopez’s fifth graders to join us for a special read-aloud experience. Each fifth grader was paired with a second grader, and the pair chose a book to enjoy together. The fifth graders read aloud while the second graders listened with wide-open ears and big smiles! Afterward, students wrote about and illustrated their favorite part of the story. To wrap up our fun reading session, everyone enjoyed a delicious snack together. Thank you to our amazing fifth graders for being such wonderful reading role models and for helping us celebrate the joy of reading. We loved sharing this special day with you!

Ms Swopes’ second graders wrapped up their recent unit with an engaging Reader’s Theatre experience. Throughout the unit, students learned about point of view, setting, major events, dialogue, and characters. Last week, some students were assigned speaking roles to practice, while others contributed in different ways. On Monday, the class brought the story to life by performing for their classmates. Students without speaking parts actively participated by adding paper “ingredients” to a pot, helping show how each character’s contribution made the soup come together. Although the pot wasn’t real, the teamwork and learning definitely were! The activity highlighted cooperation, creativity, and the idea that everyone plays an important role.

Fourth graders at Dewar Elementary had a wheel-y great time during our Fractions Pizza Room Transformation Day!
Students reviewed important fraction skills to get ready for their upcoming assessment, all while solving pizza-themed problems, working together, and showing off some seriously sharp math thinking. From halves to wholes, they proved they can handle every slice that comes their way!
These students truly rose to the occasion and gave it everything they had. We’re so proud of their hard work and positive attitudes. Math like this is always a big dill… wait, wrong topping 😉🍕

5th-grade students wrapped up their ELA government unit with a Constitution Celebration! 🇺🇸 They explored how the Constitution was created, learned about amendments, voting rights, and civil rights, and brought their learning to life through a Readers’ Theater. Students also completed hands-on tasks that challenged them to interpret the Preamble and analyze the significance of voting rights in a democracy.
