The LCS Nutrition Department chose DES as one of the schools to receive a free visit from Dady's Roasted Corn! Students visited the booth while in their exploratory classes.
A table was set up with educational materials for the students to see how the corn is made and "Miss Cornella" also made an appearance. The corn is roasted right there on the school premises. LCS paid for every student that is enrolled to have an ear of corn and they provided an ear of corn to the staff/faculty. Thank you LCS Nutrition and Dady's Roasted Corn for providing this special treat!

The Dewar chickens are free at last! With the help of the Colquitt Bright Ideas grant and a little bit of elbow grease, our team of student helpers known as the “chicken tenders” installed a temporary barrier to give our chickens extra freedom to roam. Our first “free-range Friday” was a success! The chickens feasted on some fresh vegetation and stretched their legs while our students got up close and personal with our lovely hens. Dewar has over 60 third through fifth grade students signed up to help tend to our flock during our after school chicken tending club, and we are so egg-cited to share free-range Fridays with all Dewar students!

Mrs. Webster’s class used their TouchChat app during a writing lesson to share what they would buy if they stole the leprechaun’s pot of gold. This activity gave each student the opportunity to engage and interact in the lesson using an AAC device to communicate.
