4th grade students in Mrs. Lopez's & Mrs. Scott's reading classes have successfully presented their 3 C's projects on the Civil War! Working in collaborative teams, they had the opportunity to choose from 9 creative presentation options, including scrapbooks and clickable maps.
In addition to showcasing their creativity, this project emphasized the importance of research and incorporated essential reading and ELA skills. Students engaged with various texts to gather information, analyze sources, and synthesize their findings, all while enhancing their comprehension abilities. This cross-curricular approach allowed them to make meaningful connections between social studies and language arts, deepening their understanding of the Civil War while developing valuable skills for their academic journeys.
Their hard work and collaboration truly shone during their presentations, showcasing their understanding of this important historical event. We are so proud of their creativity and teamwork! 📚✨ #CivilWar #3CsProject #LearningInAction

April is the Month of the Military Child!

It was a big week for Pretzel! 🐶🥨 Not only did he get to celebrate his 2nd birthday, but he also had the special chance to join the Pre-K classes for recess! It’s hard to say who had more fun—the kids or Pretzel—because there were plenty of giggles, tail wags, and zoomies all around.
As if that wasn’t exciting enough, everyone got to watch an excavator in action while the construction team worked hard on the school’s new wing. Nothing like some big machines and dirt-moving fun to make recess even better! 👷♂️🚧🦺
Safe to say, Pretzel gives working at Dewar two paws up! Wish him a happy 2nd birthday when you see him next week! 🐾🎉 🎂

April is the Month of the Military Child!

April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to recognize children from military families for their contributions and sacrifices. We recognize that children serve too. This nationwide commemoration was established in 1986 by former Defense Secretary Casper Weinberger.
Dewar Elementary School is proud to have over 200 military-connected youth as part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience.
This page will be updated daily to spotlight a Military Kid throughout the month of April as we celebrate the Month of the Military Child. Thank you for your service.

March Madness is an exciting time, and it’s not just for basketball fans! For kindergarteners, March Madness can be a fun way to explore stories. We read 16 books that featured colorful illustrations and great storylines. We concluded our March Madness with a friendly competition basketball game between each of the seven kindergarten classes. Whether it’s a story about a big game or a friendly competition, books can inspire young kids to dream of their own adventures!

It's Youth Art Month!
