Dear Families,
We are so excited to welcome all of our amazing students back to school on Monday for a fantastic start to the new year!

To help ease the transition, parents are welcome to walk their child to class on the FIRST day ONLY. After Monday, students will continue building independence by walking to class on their own with the support of our DES staff.

If you plan to walk your child to class on the FIRST day, please park in the grass parking area near the front office. Curbside parking is not permitted during morning drop-off.

Thank you for your continued support as we partner together for a successful school year. We can’t wait to see those smiling faces Monday morning!

Congratulations to Brittany Carswell, who has been named Principal of Dewar Elementary School beginning in the 2025-2026 school year! Mrs. Carswell brings over 17 years of educational experience and a deep commitment to student success, academic growth, and collaborative leadership. She holds a Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership certification from Valdosta State University, along with a Gifted Endorsement and a strong foundation in both elementary and middle grades education. Throughout her career, she has served as a classroom teacher, department chair, and, most recently, Assistant Principal at Pine Grove Middle School. In each of these roles, Mrs. Carswell has demonstrated a passion for creating student-centered learning environments, supporting instructional excellence, and building meaningful relationships with families and staff. She has led initiatives in curriculum development, school improvement planning, and professional learning, always with a focus on helping students reach their full potential. As the new leader of Dewar Elementary, Mrs. Carswell is excited to continue the school’s strong tradition of academic achievement and community partnership. She believes in fostering a positive and inclusive school culture, empowering students through innovative teaching practices, and working closely with families to create a supportive and engaging learning environment for all. Under her leadership, Dewar Elementary will continue to grow as a place where students are encouraged to dream big, work hard, and achieve success—together as part of our Adventure Awaits: Explore, Learn, Achieve! theme.

His hard work, quiet strength, and pride in keeping our school safe and welcoming have made a lasting impact. ✨ Ms. Berrien has given 26 and a half years of devoted service, always bringing warmth, kindness, and a smile to everything she does. Her attention to detail and love for our students have left an unforgettable mark on our halls and hearts.
