Students in Mrs. Hanson's and Ms. Benefield's 5th-grade ELA classes brought creativity to life by designing costumes inspired by figurative language. Through this imaginative project, they took abstract concepts like similes, metaphors, and personification, and transformed them into visually stunning outfits. Each costume creatively represents a specific literary device—whether it's a "time flies" theme featuring clocks and wings or a "raining cats and dogs" design with playful animals. This project not only sparked their artistic talents but also deepened their understanding of literary concepts by allowing them to embody figurative language in a fun and tangible way.

Ms. Strickland's Kinders enjoyed a fun Valentine themed write the room activity practicing their handwriting and visual memory skills today. Students were given a paper with picture clues and had to search the hallways to find the matching words.

Students in Mrs. Taylor’s first grade class had the best time reviewing quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies through an exciting and competitive game of Kahoot! Next, they worked in collaborative pairs to play a game of “Money Bugs” where they compared coin values using the greater than, less than, and equal to signs.

Congratulations to our homeroom February PBIS Viking Students of the Month! Each student enjoyed a McDonald's lunch in the Media Center! Special thanks to Bemiss McDonalds, our CPIE partners, for providing this special treat for our students.

🏈📖 Mrs. Scott and Mrs.Lopez's 4th grade ELA classrooms underwent an exciting transformation that combined the thrill of football with the power of reading. Just like the teams on the field, our students have been working hard to "score" in their reading. They racked up team points by tackling main idea, using inferencing skills to solve the case of the missing mascot, learned all about the evolution of the helmet by using context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words, and then finished it off by determining the text structure of passages. The half time show was pretty good too! 🏈📚

Here are a few pictures from Mr. Morrison's "Jurassic Park Week" in the art room!

This week is School Resource Officer Appreciation Week! School resource officers play an important role in keeping our schools safe. At Dewar Elementary, we are blessed to have Deputy Kathi Bair. Deputy Bair focuses every day on protecting our students, teachers, and staff while also building positive relationships with everyone on campus. She serves as a mentor, role model, and trusted adult that students can turn to for help and guidance. She works hard to prevent problems before they happen and she is always there when we need her. Deputy Bair's kindness, patience, and dedication make a big difference in our school community. We appreciate all that she does to make Dewar a better and safer place for everyone! We love you and Deputy Bair!

Mrs. Morris and Mrs. Trina’s Kindergarten class are getting ready for Valentine’s Day. They love painting!
