Speak Up Survey!

Parents: Speak Up – Your ideas are important to us!

Open November 28 – January 13, 2017

Be a part of the conversation! Starting on November 28th we will be participating in the Speak Up national research project. Speak Up is the first survey designed to help parents share their ideas directly with schools and national policymakers. As key stakeholders, Speak Up provides parents with a mechanism for expressing their views to the administrators at their child(ren)’s school and district about key issues impacting their child(ren)'s education. Since 2003, Speak Up has collected and shared the views of more than 4.5 million students, teachers, and parents from all 50 states, as well as internationally. By participating in Speak Up, parents are expressing their views to a wider audience of local, state, and national policy makers as well as the business community—and contributing to the national dialog about science, technology, and preparing students for the 21st century workforce.

The online survey is open to students, educators and parents; it’s quick and easy to get involved.  To take the survey visit: http://www.bit.ly/SU16survey  and click the blue parents enter here button!

Dewar Student Council Attends Leadership Summit
On November 7, 2016, Dew
ar Elementary School’s Student Council Officers (Tate Sirmans, Alyssa Payton, Ruben Compton, Tristan Clairmont, and Gavin Draper) attended the 6th Annual Leadership Summit in Atlanta hosted by the Georgia Association of Student Councils (GASC). This year’s theme was based on a famous quote from Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” The students were encouraged throughout the day to focus on their leadership abilities and realize the power they have to make a difference in the world.
Throughout the day, students took part in two General Sessions for the Georgia Association of the Student Councils, attended breakout sessions where they focused on leadership, and joined other students from around the state for lunch and activities to build their leadership skills. In addition to these events throughout the day, the student delegates visited the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.
Officers will redeliver their experience to the rest of the Council during their December meeting. They will look for ways in which they can impact their school and community as young leaders, prepared to be change agents to build a better world for all people.
