Through a partnership between the City of Valdosta and the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts, Dewar Elementary was one of five artist groups chosen to breathe new life into the appearance of a dumpster used within the city.  The students, along with Dewar Art Teacher Mr. Carlin Morrison, entitled their art work, “A Starry Night in Lowndes County.”  All 719 students at Dewar Elementary had the chance to work together and participate in the creation of this piece of art.  The overall design of the piece is based on Van Gogh’s
Starry Night, however each side represents a different aspect of Lowndes County.  Since its completion, the artwork has been moved to its permanent home at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the entire community to enjoy.
